Singapore clinic offers refuge to transgender community

Southeast Asia Globe - - Healthcare Special -

Singapore’s Institute of Mental Health has become the sole public hospital to offer psychological and psychiatric support and treatment to the city-state’s marginalised transgender community. Taking the place of the gender identity clinic at the National University Hospital, which closed its doors in 2008, the new clinic was established by psychiatrist Zheng Zhimin in consultation with local activists within the LGBTI community. The news comes less than a month after the launch of TransgenderSg, an activist-run online resource dedicated to providing safe and reliable information on trans issues to Singapore’s transgender community.
