The an­nual av­er­age of air pol­lu­tion-re­lated deaths in South­east Asia, ac­count­ing for 34% of all such deaths glob­ally, ac­cord­ing to World Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion (WHO) fig­ures re­leased in May. WHO re­ported that “98% of cities in low- and mid­dle-in­come coun­tries with more than 100,000 in­hab­i­tants do not meet WHO air qual­ity guide­lines” – and that num­ber dips to just 56% for high-in­come na­tions.
