LO­CAL E-COM­MERCE GROWTH WINS ALIBABA’S AT­TEN­TION

Thai­land will be­come the first coun­try in which on­line sellers re­ceive hands-on train­ing on the Lazada plat­form with back­ing from Alibaba Group in light of strides in the coun­try’s e-com­merce de­vel­op­ment. The two groups hope to train roughly 3,000 mer­chants in Thai­land through Taobao Univer­sity of Alibaba Group, which has ac­cred­ited bach­e­lor’s de­gree pro­grammes for on­line mer­chants. In Novem­ber, Alibaba signed a mem­o­ran­dum of un­der­stand­ing with the Thai gov­ern­ment and has al­ready trained about 3,000 Thai busi­nesses in the travel, cos­met­ics and food sec­tors. Alibaba cur­rently has 520 mil­lion ac­tive users, open­ing up Thai on­line mer­chants to great mar­ket po­ten­tial.
