LOCAL E-COMMERCE GROWTH WINS ALIBABA’S ATTENTION
Thailand will become the first country in which online sellers receive hands-on training on the Lazada platform with backing from Alibaba Group in light of strides in the country’s e-commerce development. The two groups hope to train roughly 3,000 merchants in Thailand through Taobao University of Alibaba Group, which has accredited bachelor’s degree programmes for online merchants. In November, Alibaba signed a memorandum of understanding with the Thai government and has already trained about 3,000 Thai businesses in the travel, cosmetics and food sectors. Alibaba currently has 520 million active users, opening up Thai online merchants to great market potential.
