Driver charged after truck damaged Lougheed Highway overpass, forcing rush hour closure
A Surrey man has been charged after a truck carrying a crane was driven into a CP Rail overpass this summer.
Robert Thomas Bateman, 64, faces one count of dangerous driving and one count of mischief for the Aug. 18 crash in Coquitlam.
According to Coquitlam RCMP, the CP Rail overpass crossing Lougheed Highway, just south of Barnet Highway, was damaged when a flatbed truck carrying a crane on the back collided with the span and caused a “visible hole.”
CP engineers examined the span following the crash and it was reopened and is operating normally.
