Message from the New Surrey RCMP Officer in Charge

-

On January 6th, I had the honour of officially taking on my new role as the Officer in Charge for the Surrey RCMP. The privilege comes not from the position, but from the opportunity to work with the outstanding employees and volunteers at Surrey detachment, and with the engaged residents and business owners in Surrey.

With only a few weeks under my belt, I have already seen the tremendous support the Surrey RCMP receives from the local business community. Your level of engagement with us, both at the senior level and at the community level, is outstanding and goes a long way to reducing crime, not just in and around your businesses, but throughout the city.

The collaborative work between our Community Response Units, business owners, BIAS and LPOS has helped us to target prolific offenders involved in business break and enters, shoplifting, and nuisance activity in and around businesses. In addition, our volunteerdriven Business Engagement Safety Team (BEST) visited 2,235 businesses last year to support business safety efforts.

While there is no doubt that this is a challenging time for our officers and support staff as the City of Surrey pursues a potential move to a municipal police force, I can assure you that all of us here remain committed to working with you to improve public safety. We are proud to be your local police force.

I look forward to meeting many of you in the months ahead.
