Po­lice is­sue 195 tickets dur­ing Salmon Fes­ti­val week­end

De­spite what po­lice are terming “mod­er­ate” traf­fic flows dur­ing Ex­ploits Salmon Fes­ti­val week­end, RCMP Traf­fic Ser­vices still is­sued 195 tickets.

Traf­fic re­lated of­fences over the week­end in­cluded the 195 tickets along with 82 writ­ten warn­ings and the tow­ing/im­pound­ing of three ve­hi­cles.

Tickets is­sued in­clude: · 165 - speed­ing

· 19 - other High­way Traf­fic Act of­fences

· 1 - seat­belt vi­o­la­tion

· 2 - im­pru­dent driv­ing

· 1 - dis­tracted driv­ing / cell phone use

· 3 - driv­ing with­out in­sur­ance

· 4 - ex­pired ve­hi­cle reg­is­tra­tion

In ad­di­tion to the traf­fic re­lated of­fences, a traf­fic stop re­sulted in a seizure of co­caine and charges were laid.

Traf­fic Ser­vices noted there were no se­ri­ous col­li­sions dur­ing the 2017 Salmon Fes­ti­val.

“En­sur­ing safety on our roads is a pri­or­ity for the RCMP, but en­force­ment alone can’t pre­vent deaths,” po­lice noted in a press re­lease. “Re­mem­ber, it’s up to ev­ery­one who gets into a ve­hi­cle to buckle up, keep your eyes on the road, re­frain from us­ing your cell phone, slow down and do not drink and drive.”
