Police issue 195 tickets during Salmon Festival weekend
Cocaine seized in one stop
Despite what police are terming “moderate” traffic flows during Exploits Salmon Festival weekend, RCMP Traffic Services still issued 195 tickets.
Traffic related offences over the weekend included the 195 tickets along with 82 written warnings and the towing/impounding of three vehicles.
Tickets issued include: · 165 - speeding
· 19 - other Highway Traffic Act offences
· 1 - seatbelt violation
· 2 - imprudent driving
· 1 - distracted driving / cell phone use
· 3 - driving without insurance
· 4 - expired vehicle registration
In addition to the traffic related offences, a traffic stop resulted in a seizure of cocaine and charges were laid.
Traffic Services noted there were no serious collisions during the 2017 Salmon Festival.
“Ensuring safety on our roads is a priority for the RCMP, but enforcement alone can’t prevent deaths,” police noted in a press release. “Remember, it’s up to everyone who gets into a vehicle to buckle up, keep your eyes on the road, refrain from using your cell phone, slow down and do not drink and drive.”
