Vandals target mayoral candidate’s campaign signs

Vandalism not deterring Manuel in race for mayor

Campaign signs are covering Grand Falls-Windsor in anticipation of the upcoming municipal election. Unfortunately for mayoral candidate Barry Manuel, it appears someone is targeting his signs with acts of vandalism.

In recent weeks, some of Manuel’s signs have been stolen from properties and destroyed. This past weekend, someone went to the trouble of vandalizing his signs by cutting Manuel’s face out, leaving a hole where his face would be.

“All I can say is, obviously it’s disappointing to see that kind of stuff go on,” Manuel told the Advertiser. “It’s also motivating for me to work harder on the campaign. I’m not going to be deterred.”

Manuel says he has no suspicions of who the culprit might be, but he is convinced someone is targeting his signs.

The vandalism is not getting this candidate down, as he said he is more focused than ever.

“I’m not going to concern myself with it – I’m obviously focused on the campaign now and that’s the way I’ll continue for the next two weeks,” he said.
