Everyone has the right to be free from violence, the right to be heard, and the right to walk in their community free from fear of sexual assault.
On Sept. 14 the annual Take Back the Night march was held in Grand Falls-Windsor. The march is an international event that started in 1976 to raise awareness of sexual violence against women in our communities.
Men from the community read pledges during the event to stand in solidarity with the women of the community.
Those who read the pledges included Paul Lewis, Dennis Fewer, Will White, Grant Wheaton, Rev. Randy Lockyer and Si Thompson.
There was a display of luminaries and shoes intended to represent missing and murdered women.
