Mural Conference coming to Botwood in 2018
The 11th Global Mural Conference will take place in Botwood Sept. 13-15, 2018.
“We started work on this when we were given the award to host at conference 2016 in Fairport, New York,” Botwood Mural Arts Society President Mike Shainline said. “We made a bid against Singapore and we won. It means a lot to Newfoundland artists and it means a lot to global artists because they’ll get to taste a bit of our culture.”
They have recently put up highway signs acknowledging the fact they are hosting the 2018 conference, and a poster is underway.
“One of the reasons we are getting a poster done at this time is there is a delegation from the Global Mural Conference going to China in October,” Shainline said. They want to take a couple of our posters with them and they will be encouraging the people from that area to bid on the 2020 conference. To do that they got to come to Botwood. They have to make their presentation during the forthcoming global conference in Botwood next year.”
Shainline is in communication with an artist from Argentina who is interested in attending, and he expects an artist from Germany as well.
“Those are just a few that I know of from different parts of the world that we would expect to see here,” Shainline said. “Keep your eyes open in the Advertiser for additional information on the global conference as that plan comes together.”
