GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL – Sister duo Mya and Lilly Healey are joining forces to raise money for the Arthritis Society.

Mya, 11, was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at just two years old, so the cause is something near and dear to the girls’ hearts.

When Mya’s babysitter noticed something was up with one of Mya’s toes, her mom took her to the doctor multiple times. Mya went through a series of blood work and was eventually sent to the Janeway Children’s Hospital, where she was diagnosed.

Over the past three years Mya and her eight-year-old sister Lilly, along with some close family members, have travelled to Paradise for the June Arthritis Walk. In 2016 the girls raised $ 3,000; in 2017 they raised almost $ 4,500. So far this year, the sisters have already raised $3,000 towards the 2018 fundraiser – their best effort yet.

The girls run a Facebook page called “Sister Power – Walk to Fight Arthritis,” where they promote their upcoming fundraisers. They just finished an online auction with online donations from retailers all over Newfoundland.

In partnership with the Medicine Shoppe in Grand FallsWindsor, they are offering a buy one, give one campaign on their flu shots. For every flu shot the pharmacist gives, he will donate $1 to the Arthritis Society. And just after the Christmas holidays the girls will be selling tickets on a beautiful homemade quilt featuring a blue ribbon for arthritis awareness made by their grandma.

For updates on the sisters’ fundraising projects, follow them on Facebook.

“Please help us fight arthritis; we don’t want to see anybody in pain, children or adults. It’s no fun,” said the sisters.
