An­nual cookie cam­paign raises money for SCHF

CEN­TRAL NEW­FOUND­LAND – This year’s smile cookie cam­paign at the Grand Fall­sWind­sor, Bishop’s Falls and Lewis­porte Tim Hor­tons lo­ca­tions raised more than $15,000 to sup­port the South and Cen­tral Health Foun­da­tion (SCHF)

The SCHF is a reg­is­tered char­ity ded­i­cated to en­hanc­ing health care pro­grams and ser­vices of­fered by Cen­tral Health.

Funds from the cam­paign will be used to fur­nish an area to sup­port pa­tients and their fam­i­lies when the Cen­tral New­found­land Re­gional Health Cen­tre (CNRHC) is over ca­pac­ity.

Equip­ment and com­fort items such as night stands, overbed ta­bles, wheel­chairs, walk­ers, foot stools, pa­tient bed­side chairs and vis­i­tor chairs will be pur­chased to ac­com­mo­date up to six pa­tients.

“The pro­vin­cial govern­ment can only do so much, so with­out these part­ner­ships, there’s all these re­ally im­por­tant things that im­pact peo­ple right here,” said SCHF chair Ben Black­more. “It’s peo­ple that could be fam­ily mem­bers or friends that will ac­tu­ally get to use these things, but with­out your help we couldn’t do it. It’s awe­some and we re­ally ap­pre­ci­ate it.”

Ac­cord­ing to Gai­tane Vil­leneuve, di­rec­tor of com­mu­ni­ca­tions for Cen­tral Health,

“the goal of acute care bed man­age­ment at Cen­tral Health fa­cil­i­ties is to max­i­mize our ef­forts to en­sure that pa­tients re­ceive the right care, by the right provider, in the right set­ting.

“On oc­ca­sion, that may mean re­ceiv­ing care at an­other fa­cil­ity in the re­gion or mov­ing to an­other unit within the same fa­cil­ity,” Vil­leneuve stated in an e-mail to the Ad­ver­tiser. “De­spite our best ef­forts, there are oc­ca­sions when pro­vid­ing the nec­es­sary care to ev­ery­one re­sults in over­ca­pac­ity at our fa­cil­i­ties.”

Ev­ery year dur­ing the smile cam­paign, Tim Hor­tons chooses a char­ity that will di­rectly im­pact cen­tral New­found­land.

“We’ve used the hos­pi­tal foun­da­tion a cou­ple of times, we’re happy to get a chance to use them again this time and I’m sure we’ll do it again in the fu­ture,” said Duane Suther­land, owner of the par­tic­i­pat­ing Tim Hor­tons lo­ca­tions.

Vil­leneuve said Cen­tral Health is grate­ful for the help.

“We are so thank­ful for the sup­port from our health foun­da­tions, and com­mu­nity part­ners like Tim Hor­tons. These gifts help Cen­tral Health pro­vide a bet­ter pa­tient ex­pe­ri­ence.”

On Nov. 3 rep­re­sen­ta­tives from Tim Hor­tons pre­sented a cheque for $15,163 to the SCHF.
