Bryan Adams coming to Mile One
Tickets on sale March 2
For the first time in its more than three decades of existence, there is a woman chairing the Lions Winter Carnival in Bishop’s Falls.
Lynette McDonald is chair of the 34th annual Bishop’s Falls Lions Club Winter Carnival, which starts March 1 and runs until March 8.
“The first female ever,” she said. “We have a busy slate. We have all kinds of events going on from Thursday to Thursday for all ages every day of the week.”
The opening ceremony is March 1 at Leo Burke Academy and includes the little carnival king and queen and Miss Winter Carnival pageants.
There’s everything from a snow-sculpture contest, family skating, a craft fair, a special bingo, 15 prize card game, gospel sing-a-long, open mic night, adult matinee and dance, and chug-a-lug.
There a family day on Sunday, March 4 with children’s games, mascots and a root beer chuga-lug.
The following evening there will be a family night with wiener roast, hot chocolate and fireworks.
There is also lots of food for sale throughout the week including a ham and beans supper, mooseburger and home fries, hot roast beef supper and fishermen’s brewis.
Other organizations are hosting events as fundraisers, said McDonald.
“It’s our main fundraiser that we have every year, and through these funds we give back to the community,” she said. “Anything that the Lions Club raises we give back to the people within our own community and surrounding areas. We serve. Not matter what it’s for.”
One of the major events is the snowmobile fun run slated for March 4.
“Whatever money is raised we give back to the Lions Max Simms Camp,” McDonald said. “We usually give them about $5,000 every year, and the majority of that comes from this event.”
All are welcome to take in the week-long festivities, the chair said.
“This is open up to Bishop’s Falls and surrounding areas, for all ages, family fun for everyone,” McDonald said.
