Cal­gary Hor­ti­cul­tural So­ci­ety Events Bus Tour 2017: Gar­den Visit Sun­day, July 9

Gar­den visit to El­lis Bird Farm in Red Deer and the Trochu Arboretum. Bus de­parts from CHS of­fice (208 – 50 Ave. S.W.) at 9:30 a.m. and re­turns at 6 p.m. Cost: $60 for mem­bers, $80 for non-mem­bers. Reg­is­ter early as space is lim­ited.

Con­ver­sa­tions in the Gar­den Wed­nes­day, July 12 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feel like talk­ing about gar­den­ing? Join the Cal­gary Hor­ti­cul­tural So­ci­ety in their gar­den for a re­lax­ing evening and a con­ver­sa­tion with a hor­ti­cul­tural ex­pert. Bring your own lawn chair, love of gar­den­ing and spe­cific ques­tions. The con­ver­sa­tion will also cover what is hap­pen­ing at that par­tic­u­lar time in the gar­den and what tasks need to be done. Talks will take place rain or shine, so dress for the weather.

Grow­ing Wild­flow­ers Tues­day, July 25 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Pre­sen­ter: Dr. Al Fed­ken­heuer (ALCLA Na­tive Plant Restora­tion) Learn about the ben­e­fits of wild­flow­ers in the ur­ban gar­den. They help pre­serve na­tive plant species, and at­tract na­tive bees, which are im­por­tant for pol­li­na­tion. Find out how to cre­ate in­ter­est in your gar­den while at­tract­ing but­ter­flies, bees and birds through­out the sum­mer. You will as­sist in plant­ing a demon­stra­tion wild­flower gar­den in the So­ci­ety gar­den.

En­joy Beautiful Gar­dens at the EHS An­nual Gar­den Tour! The most pop­u­lar event of the year and the per­fect way to spend a sum­mer week­end in July. Tour some of the Ed­mon­ton area’s best gar­dens, chat with their gar­den­ers and get de­sign and plant­ing ideas. Each year’s tour is self-guided. Your ticket will in­clude the gar­dens, their ad­dresses with driv­ing di­rec­tions, and a brief de­scrip­tion of what makes each gar­den spe­cial. Each gar­den has its own par­tic­u­lar charm and fea­tures. Many are award-win­ning. Start where you choose and pro­ceed at your own pace. The tour goes rain or shine. Get your tick­ets early as this event sells out every year.
