Bull In A China Shop

On September 30, representatives from Sprott Asset Management, the storied Toronto firm that is renowned for its expertise in hard assets like precious metals and oil and gas, paid a visit to Calgary. Their message? Sprott and the funds it offers is about more than just those hard assets. They called it “The New Sprott,” and the firm emphasized its shift towards a more balanced portfolio of funds. But ERIC NUTTALL, their longtime oil and gas fund manager, is still a big believer in companies that trade in energy. In fact, he thinks the current environment offers investors one of the most interesting buying opportunities in years – if they can stomach it. And while he remains optimistic, he says it’s been a challenge for him to handle the volatility and pervasive bearishness that has defined the market for oil and gas equities over the last year.
