Alberta Oil - - OIL SANDS REPORT -

Trans Mountain crosses several different caribou ranges and any expansion of the pipeline would require the company to assess potential impacts on caribou habitat and to mitigate them. This would include submitting to the NEB a detailed map and survey of each caribou habitat and a description of how local aboriginal ecological knowledge would be applied to the mitigation plan. Similarly, any construction activity affecting the range lands of the caribou would have to be remediated upon completion, and a buffer zone of 500 meters on either side of the pipeline would be established in those areas populated by caribou.
