A blooming good time
Open Flower and Vegetable Show coming to Kingstec
KENTVILLE - From Monet to Van Gogh to mediaeval books of the hours, paintings of gardens and flowers have intrigued us over the centuries.
It is no different in our local community. People will be able to experience the best of both worlds Aug. 13 at Kingstec in Kentville.
The Valley Gardeners Club is hosting its annual Open Flower and Vegetable
Show with a new addition this year. There will be beautiful flower arrangements, delectable jams and pickles, mouthwatering fresh vegetables and perfect flower specimens.
In addition, local artists will be showing their paintings based on gardening themes. There will be offerings for a wide range of tastes. This is a display only. It will not be judged, but there will be an opportunity to buy your favourite painting if you just can’t live without one of the works.
This new artistic offering is in addition to a judged photographic category. Each year the Valley Gardeners marvel at the talented photographers in our midst.
Equally talented are the flower arrangers. Flower arranging is an art in itself. Not to be left out is the science and art of gardening, the basis of the whole exhibit. Members of the Valley Gardeners Club will be entering the best of their year’s successes.
The show is open to entries from the general public as well. There are many wonderful gardeners out there, and this is an opportunity to embrace the world of plants in all its aspects. Now is a chance to strut your stuff.
There is even a category for pickles, jams and baking should your garden not be producing.
For those who want to just come and look, the show is open to the public from 1 p.m. to
4 p.m. Aug. 13. Admission is free as is a delectable tea table where friends new and old can sit and chat about what they have seen.
For those who wish to put in an entry, the door is open from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Entries must comply with show regulations and have entry tags.
