The countdown is over.

Feb. 9 marked the opening day of the 2017 season for Berwick’s beloved Jonny’s Cookhouse and Ice Cream Shop.

Edith Wheaton was among the regulars who could hardly wait to get in line for her favourite Jonny’s dish.

“I travel all the time to come out here,” the Kentville resident said during an interview at the busy cookhouse.

“The food is good, it’s hot all the time and there’s nothing like good Newfoundland food.”

Jonny’s open season has continually been extended due to the steady increase in demand the business has enjoyed since it opened.

Rick Vidito, for one, is thrilled to see the cookhouse’s winter closures becoming shorter and shorter. The Berwick resident took his wife and two-year-old grandson to Jonny’s for lunch minutes after it opened Feb. 9.

Some long for the signature burgers or loaded poutines, but Vidito craves the fish and chips.

“The food is excellent,” he said. “I’ve tried a lot of places but… you can’t beat this place.”
