Open house set for new town hall in Berwick
Members of the public waiting for their chance to tour the new town hall and library complex are in luck.
The final touches are being put on the new facility that is now home to the Town of Berwick offices, Berwick and District Library and Annapolis Valley Regional Library headquarters.
An open house will be held to celebrate the completion of the building at 236 Commercial St. in Berwick from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 22.
There will be brief speeches, tours of the complex and light refreshments.
“We’ve started with some classes in the gym and I think people are enjoying that. I think everybody is looking forward to making use of the building,” said Berwick Mayor Don Clarke.
“For people who work there day in and day out it’s a real nice change.”
The open house will provide members of the public with a rare opportunity to see the entire building, Clarke said.
“It’s built to be light and airy and very enjoyable to be in,” he added.
“We really accentuated making it a healthy space, making sure that the material and so on that went in it is environmentally friendly. It’s a well-insulated building. We think that it’s going to be as inexpensive to run as possible.”
The Town of Berwick hosted its first council session in the new chambers Feb. 14, with Clarke describing the meeting as a historic event.
“It’s good for the town,” he said, referring to the completion of the building.
Berwick Mayor Don Clarke, pictured during the town’s first meeting in the new council chambers Feb. 14, said the new town hall and library complex is 99 per cent complete.
