Volunteers hop to the rescue
Sanford and bunny crew take on Annapolis Royal’s Easter Eggstravaganza
The Easter Eggstravaganza in Annapolis Royal will be back for its 11th year thanks to businesswoman Holly Sanford and a crew of volunteers who are hopping to the rescue.
“Good news!! With the help of some awesome new volunteers Easter Eggstravaganza is back on! What a great community we have.” — Town of Annapolis Royal Facebook page
The annual event has become a tradition in the province’s smallest town and attracts youngsters and their families from Halifax to Yarmouth for a variety of fun activities including an Easter egg hunt on the grounds of Fort Anne – with 10,000 colourful eggs.
Sanford, of Baintons Tannery Outlet Book Store, takes over organizing the event from Paula Buxton who originated the Easter Eggstravaganza and grew it over the years to be the go-to bunny destination for Easter.
The future of the event appeared to be uncertain, and recently the Town of Annapolis Royal Facebook page posted a plea to help save the Easter Eggstravaganza.
“Calling all volunteers!!!,” the post read. “Unfortunately, after ten awesome years of our Easter Eggstravganza the Easter Bunny may not visit Annapolis Royal this year.”
The post called for volunteers to contact Sanford. In no time it was back on and town hall posted an update Feb. 21.
“Good news!! With the help of some awesome new volunteers Easter Eggstravaganza is back on! What a great community we have,” the new post said. “More volunteers for this event would be appreciated but the Easter Bunny is excited to be back in Annapolis Royal this year.”
This year’s edition is set for April 15 and includes most of the traditional events including the Annapolis Royal Amazing Race, and a free children’s movie at King’s Theatre.
“We’re excited,” said Sanford. “We’re looking forward to it. We have lots of great volunteers but we would love to have more – more is always better of course.”
She said the movie this year will be The Hop and there will be a chance for children to win a bicycle and other prizes. She described it as a great family day in Annapolis Royal.
The event is held in partnership with the Town of Annapolis Royal and Parks Canada.
