East­ern Star mem­bers re­ceives spe­cial award

Laverne Porter, sec­re­tary of Evan­ge­line Chap­ter No. 15, Or­der of the East­ern Star, Kentville, was hon­oured at the last chap­ter meet­ing. She re­ceived a Di­a­mond Award from the York Rite Sov­er­eign Col­lege of North Amer­ica, which meets in Mid­dle­ton.

Four mem­bers of the York Rite were present to make the pre­sen­ta­tion: Broth­ers Gary Pat­ter­son, Robin Lawrie, Reg Jo­drie and Mar­shall Black, a mem­ber of the O.E.S. chap­ter.

This is the first time an award of this na­ture has been pre­sented in Nova Sco­tia by the York Rite, which is given to some­one who has con­trib­uted greatly to East­ern Stars, and Ma­sonry in gen­eral.

Porter gives gen­er­ously of her time and ta­lents by knit­ting, sewing and bak­ing. Her main project for the year is to make 50 small quilts along with pa­ja­mas for the chil­dren at the Shriners Hos­pi­tal for Sick Chil­dren in Mon­treal. She gives great credit to her friends and mem­bers of the Star, for con­tribut­ing ma­te­rial for knit­ting and sewing.
