Eastern Star members receives special award
Laverne Porter, secretary of Evangeline Chapter No. 15, Order of the Eastern Star, Kentville, was honoured at the last chapter meeting. She received a Diamond Award from the York Rite Sovereign College of North America, which meets in Middleton.
Four members of the York Rite were present to make the presentation: Brothers Gary Patterson, Robin Lawrie, Reg Jodrie and Marshall Black, a member of the O.E.S. chapter.
This is the first time an award of this nature has been presented in Nova Scotia by the York Rite, which is given to someone who has contributed greatly to Eastern Stars, and Masonry in general.
Porter gives generously of her time and talents by knitting, sewing and baking. Her main project for the year is to make 50 small quilts along with pajamas for the children at the Shriners Hospital for Sick Children in Montreal. She gives great credit to her friends and members of the Star, for contributing material for knitting and sewing.
