Purse stolen from down­town ho­tel used to ob­tain en­try to vic­tim’s Yorkville home

There have been 61 recorded thefts over $5,000 in Mid­town neigh­bour­hoods in 53 Di­vi­sion so far this year.

On June 6, a fe­male vic­tim was at­tend­ing a pri­vate func­tion at the Westin Har­bour Cas­tle ho­tel when a male sus­pect stole her purse and used her per­sonal in­for­ma­tion and keys to gain ac­cess to her Yorkville home.

Some­one was in the vic­tim’s house when the sus­pect ar­rived. The sus­pect then stole the vic­tim’s Audi SUV.

Se­cu­rity cam­era im­ages of the sus­pect were re­leased, and po­lice were able to iden­tify the per­pe­tra­tor.

On July 23, a 40-year-old male sus­pect was charged with theft un­der $5,000, break and en­ter with in­tent, theft over $5,000 and pos­ses­sion of prop­erty ob­tained by crime. Allyson Dou­glas-Cook, a com­mu­ni­ca­tions of­fi­cer with the Toronto Po­lice Ser­vice, said that the sus­pect and the vic­tim did not know each other.

The ac­cused last ap­peared in court on Sept. 18.
