I passed a vision test – Do I still need an eye exam?

Vision tests and screenings are not Eye Exams, as they are often not performed by eye doctors. A comprehensive eye exam is more than reading letters on a chart across the room. A licensed eye doctor such as an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist will perform a comprehensive eye exam to evaluate the complete health of the inside of your eyes.

I can see well and have no problems – Do I need an Eye Exam?

Many potentially sight robbing eye diseases may not have noticeable symptoms. Eye doctors are able to detect early signs of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, detached retina, cataracts and more, which can can steal sight for many years unnoticed and the vision may not return to normal. Early detection, treatment and management can help ensure a lifetime of good comfortable vision.

I have check ups with my family Dr – Do I need an Eye Exam?

Eye doctors use highly specific instruments and special magnification lenses to look into the back of your eyes to detect subtle blood vessel or nerve changes related to health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, risk of stroke and many other systemic disorders which may first show up in the eye.

My child has great vision – Does my child need an eye exam?

An eye doctor will evaluate your child’s eyes to ensure normal development and rule out eye health problems so early childhood eye exams are essential. The eye doctor will determine your child’s eye’s ability to focus, move and work together effectively and efficiently. Children with farsightedness or astigmatism may avoid or dislike reading which raises the risk for learning problems. 80% of what a child learns is presented visually therefore good vision is vital for optimal learning.

How often should my child have eye exams?

Children are generally seen once a year however the eye doctor may examine your child more frequently depending on their specific needs.
