“Like other artists I want to feel the energy that arises from putting the painting together, the layout, the colours, the forms and especially the representation of light. It is important to surrender yourself to what is happening on the canvas and bring it to life,” says Claudette. For Claudette Castonguay energy happens between each colour – the need to harmonize these elements as the subject slowly takes form. What interests her about other artists is not necessarily the technique they use, but the attitude that they adopt in their creative process – the way they abandon themselves to what is emerging from the canvas.
A Life of Solitude, Creativity and Joy
The solitary state imposed by painting in the her joy. She likes the playing side of creation. It is an adventure coming in by slight degrees on the white canvas. Claudette is always surprised or astonished by certain magic moments. When her working day is over, Claudette likes to read a good book and to enter the
universe of the thinker. She prefers an essay discussing wisdom, philosophy or spirituality. Over the last couple of years, some evenings she also spends time writing tales or short stories which she gives to friends and family at Christmas. Claudette Castonguay always needs to be creating something. With so many awards, shows and honours too numerous to list it is obvious that not only I am glad of her creativity. The world awaits her delightful paintings. The colourful and joyful work of Claudette Castonguay can be found at these galleries:
