Movers, shak­ers and win­ners

Plans to add a new Kin­der­mu­seum to the Jewish Mu­seum Ber­lin are closer to fruition, fol­low­ing the an­nounce­ment that Alan Maskin, prin­ci­pal at Seat­tle firm ol­son Kundig, has won the com­mis­sion. Maskin’s pro­posal, which in­cludes an ar­chi­tec­tural plan as well as in­ter­ac­tive in­stal­la­tions, was se­lected through a two-stage in­ter­na­tional de­sign com­pe­ti­tion, which set a Noah’s Ark theme for the in­sti­tu­tion.

White Arkitek­ter’s copen­hagen of­fice is set to de­sign 115 homes that will com­prise a new neigh­bour­hood out­side the Dan­ish cap­i­tal. the in­no­va­tive so­cial hous­ing project will be sur­rounded by na­ture and will be con­structed us­ing sus­tain­able ma­te­ri­als. the project is tar­get­ing a 2018 com­ple­tion date.

Aus­tralia’s most iconic land­mark, the Syd­ney opera House, is set to un­dergo its first ma­jor ren­o­va­tion since open­ing in 1973. the $200 mil­lion, pub­licly funded project will im­prove ac­cess to the at­trac­tion and in­clude a re­design of the main con­cert hall by Mel­bourne firm ARM Ar­chi­tec­ture. the build­ing, fa­mous for its sail-like roof, was named a World Her­itage Site in 2007, just a year be­fore the death of its ar­chi­tect, Jørn Ut­zon.
