Promoting the arts in North York
James Pasternak Ward 10 Councillor
One of my priorities when I came into office was to grow the arts and culture in our local communities.
There are so many amazingly talented artists in our neighbourhoods that are simply looking for an opportunity to shine. Unfortunately for too long the majority of cultural funding was directed into the downtown core. I am happy to say that this is starting to change given how many exciting free cultural events are happening in Ward 10 this summer.
Earl Bales Park continues to be a hub of cultural programming with free live music every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. until Aug. 22. Free family movies are back outdoors on the big screen in the park amphitheatre on Aug. 10, 16, 24 and 30 starting at 8:30 p.m. Plus Arts in the Park events are happening in Earl Bales again this summer.
Visit www.jamespasternak.ca for a complete schedule of all the programming in the park.
The Taste of Manila street festival returns for its fourth year on Aug. 19 and 20, at Bathurst and Wilson, celebrating the food, music and culture of Toronto’s Filipino community.
We will also be celebrating the new playground and other improvements made in Irv Chapley Park with a community festival on Aug. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the park. Join us for music, food and fun.
These are a just a few of the great events happening in Ward 10, and if you have an idea for a project, please do not hesitate to contact my office any time at 416392-1371.
There is free live music at Earl Bales Park every Tuesday until Aug. 22
