Two daycares coming to North York
James Pasternak Ward 10 Councillor
Providing families with safe and affordable child care in their neighbourhood is vital. It is not only beneficial to the child’s development, but also provides parents the opportunity to continue their education or find employment. In Ward 10, we are excited to announce that two new daycares will be opening soon plus the expansion of others.
My office is working with Advent Health in building a 49space daycare in its Valleyview Residence near Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue West. This facility is expected to open in September 2018. In the Tippet Road area, a fully furnished and equipped daycare space for more than 50 children is being built. It is planned to be operational in 2019.
At the same time, we have helped fund Beth Joseph Synagogue’s plan to more than double the number of daycare spaces at its daycare from 23 to 52 and helped fund the expansion of child support services at the North York Women’s Shelter.
The City of Toronto’s licensed child care system has over 1,500 centres and 19 home child care agencies that provide child care and early learning for children up to 12 years of age. In April 2017, Toronto City Council adopted the city’s 10year Licensed Child Care Growth Strategy, which strives to improve the affordability and number of licensed child care programs in our city. However, there is more work to be done, and we will continue to introduce new subsidies to help working families and expand our child care system across the city.
Keep up with our progress and check back for regular updates at www.jamespasternak.ca.
