Campbell, one of four Canadians who stars in the latest campaign for the heritage beauty brand, has come to embrace the silver mane that emerged in her late teens. “When I was dying my hair constantly, I felt like I was keeping a dirty little secret,” she says, “As an artist, one of the greatest points of value you can recognize in yourself is your individuality – what sets you apart from others.” Today, her natural hair hue is a source of compliments, questions and pride. “There was no extra effort to make the colour look the way it does,” she says. “It just grows out of my head this way.” With her confidence captured by world-renowned photographer Mario Testino (think Princess Di’s most iconic portrait), Campbell joins 32 females from more than 15 countries who reflect the Dove Real Beauty Pledge, which is to feature images of diverse real women with zero digital distortion. “Beauty is peculiarity, rarity and originality,” says Campbell. “What beauty is to me might not be what it is to you, and it doesn’t have to be. That’s the best part.”
