Ex­cess sugar is linked to weight gain, type 2 di­a­betes, cav­i­ties and high choles­terol in chil­dren, while obe­sity rates for chil­dren and youth have nearly tripled in the past 30 years, ac­cord­ing to the Gov­ern­ment of Canada.
