Best Health travels to Paris for the goods on gorgeous skin

Best Health - - LOOKS -

OH, THE FRENCH – THEY have everything going for them. In addition to Bordeaux and Breton stripes, French women win big in the beauty department. A look at icons past and present (think Catherine Deneuve and Marion Cotillard) reveals a common thread: Their timeless je ne sais quoi is grounded in simplicity. Glowing skin? Check. Defined eyes? Complete. Add a bold lip colour and voilà!

Isabelle Jamet Surjon, store director for the Yves Rocher f lagship on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, knows the essentials coveted by the French. It starts with an easy yet effective skincare system. “Cleansing and anti-aging are the priorities,” she says. “Women are busy.” A cream for day and night that boasts natural ingredients is a must-have, and she has spotted many clients adopting the habit of using a serum.

An equally fuss-free approach to cosmetics follows – no Kardashianstyle contouring here. “It’s important for the Parisienne to have her makeup,” says Jamet Surjon. “Mascara, yes, but eyebrows aren’t as much of a focus. Foundation, too, but very light and natural to look like you have nothing on your skin. And lipstick – red, of course.”
