“Dehydrated skin is characterized by a lack of water in the uppermost layer – known as the stratum corn-eum – and is brought on by external elements, such as dry, hot environments,” says Dr. Bertucci.
Any skin type – even oily – can get dehydrated and respond with irritation, inflammation, itching, flaking and fine lines.
Though daylight saving time gifts you an extra hour, your chronological clock won’t help much. “As we age, lipid levels decline and lead to accelerated signs of aging, such as rough texture and wrinkles,” says
Dr. Bertucci. “The skin also slows production of hyaluronic acid, which is responsible for density and hydration.”
