MAR­RIOTT LAUNCHES MOXY, AN ECON­OMY BRAND

Mar­riott has an­nounced the launch of MOXY Ho­tels, its first foray into the econ­omy ho­tel sec­tor. The brand will de­but in Mi­lan, Italy in early 2014. Mar­riott aims to com­bine con­tem­po­rary de­sign and ap­proach­able ser­vice with af­ford­able rates with a fo­cus on the mil­len­nial trav­eler.

Ho­tels will have 150-to-300 gue­strooms, with LEED Gold cer­ti­fi­ca­tion and de­sign based on a neu­tral color palette. Each gue­stroom will dis­play a floor-to-ceil­ing“art wall” with art­work to re­flect the lo­cal area. Free WiFi and mo­bile check-in will be avail­able.

Mar­riott plans to open 150 MOXY Ho­tels in Europe through­out the next 10 years in Ger­many, Aus­tria, United King­dom, Ire­land, Bel­gium, Italy, the Nether­lands, Den­mark, Fin­land, Nor­way and Swe­den.

“MOXY Ho­tels is the essence of the next gen­er­a­tion trav­eler, not only Gen X andY but peo­ple with a younger sen­si­bil­ity, for whom con­tem­po­rary style is para­mount,”said Mar­riott In­ter­na­tional’s pres­i­dent and CEO, Arne Soren­son. The an­nounce­ment came at the Ber­lin In­ter­na­tional Ho­tel In­vest­ment Fo­rum.
