North Amer­ica 2012 Travel Spend Up Over 2011

Travel spend on trips to Brazil, Canada, Mex­ico and the US reached $57 bil­lion in 2012, a six per­cent in­crease over 2011, ac­cord­ing to Visa In­sights’2012 Travel Snap­shots.

China sur­passed the UK as one of the world’s lead­ing in­bound coun­tries trav­el­ing to the US and in­creased travel spend by 30 per­cent over 2011. Trav­el­ers from Brazil, Canada, Mex­ico and the US trav­eled more to Ja­pan and in­creased the coun­try’s tourism spend by 25 per­cent. African trav­el­ers spent 17 per­cent more when trav­el­ing to the US in 2012 to­tal­ing $585 mil­lion.

The re­port based statis­tics off of Visa ac­count hold­ers in key source coun­tries dur­ing 2012 and in­cludes travel spend in Visa Europe.
