North America 2012 Travel Spend Up Over 2011
Travel spend on trips to Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the US reached $57 billion in 2012, a six percent increase over 2011, according to Visa Insights’2012 Travel Snapshots.
China surpassed the UK as one of the world’s leading inbound countries traveling to the US and increased travel spend by 30 percent over 2011. Travelers from Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the US traveled more to Japan and increased the country’s tourism spend by 25 percent. African travelers spent 17 percent more when traveling to the US in 2012 totaling $585 million.
The report based statistics off of Visa account holders in key source countries during 2012 and includes travel spend in Visa Europe.
