The two-day Wash­ing­ton DC Dragon Boat Fes­ti­val along the Po­tomac River starts at Thomp­sons Boat Cen­ter. Dragon boat­ing dates back 2,300 years to the le­gend of the Chi­nese poet Qu Yuan, who com­mit­ted sui­cide in the Mei Lo River. Lo­cal bay, a tra­di­tion which evolved into dragon boat­ing.
