LAX’s Ter­mi­nal 5 will be un­der­go­ing a $229 mil­lion over­haul that’s slated for com­ple­tion in 2015. Los An­ge­les World Air­ports and Delta Air Lines have both in­vested in the con­struc­tion pro­ject.

On the land­side, the ren­o­va­tion will dou­ble the size of the tick­et­ing lobby and se­cu­rity screen­ing check­points, cre­ate an ex­clu­sive Sky Pri­or­ity ex­pe­ri­ence with a sep­a­rate lobby and check­point for qual­i­fy­ing Delta pas­sen­gers and a pri­vate VIP lobby for the “most elite ex­pe­ri­ence avail­able at LAX,” ac­cord­ing to the press re­lease. New bag­gage carousels will also be in­stalled.

Air­side ren­o­va­tions will in­clude a re­vamped Delta Sky Club that will in­clude a full-ser­vice bar. In ad­di­tion the ter­mi­nal will boast new car­pet, tile, more recharg­ing sta­tions and 15 new restau­rants and shops.

Ap­prox­i­mately $12 mil­lion of the pro­ject’s fund­ing is com­ing from Delta, and $25 mil­lion is com­ing from the TSA for en­hance­ments to se­cu­rity-screen­ing mea­sures. Los An­ge­les World Air­ports is in­vest­ing the rest of the $229 mil­lion.
