In Septem­ber 2010, Taj Ho­tels re­branded 19 of its properties across In­dia un­der the Vi­vanta um­brella, which is the chain’s “up­per up­scale” brand – plac­ing it a notch above its Taj Gate­way port­fo­lio of “up­scale” properties – for the cream of the crowd. It now has 25 properties, mostly in In­dia, ex­cept for one in the Mal­dives and an­other in Ben­tota, Sri Lanka. The style: Taj Ho­tels launched Vi­vanta based on cus­tomer sur­veys and re­search, which re­vealed a de­mand for the crème de la crème, which is ex­actly what this brand will pro­vide.
