New York’s Largest Ho­tel Drops Room Ser­vice –

New York’s Hil­ton Mid­town is plan­ning to dis­con­tinue room ser­vice in Au­gust, ac­cord­ing to me­dia re­ports. The ho­tel, lo­cated on Sixth Av­enue, be­tween West 53rd and West 54th streets, is the cou­pled with a rise in la­bor costs.

“Like most full-ser­vice ho­tels, New York Hil­ton Mid­town has con­tin­ued to see a de­cline in tra­di­tional room-ser­vice re­quests over the last sev­eral years,” ac­cord­ing to a Hil­ton state­ment.

In place of room ser­vice, the ho­tel will open Herb n’ Kitchen, a cafe­te­ria-style eatery that will of­fer break­fast, lunch and din­ner. The move is part of a larger ini­tia­tive at the ho­tel chain to sim­plify its food of­fer­ings, and will in­clude Dou­bleTree by Hil­ton and Em­bassy Suites as well.

Ac­cord­ing to Crain’s New York Busi­ness, the move will elim­i­nate 55 jobs, but in a state­ment a Hil­ton ho­tel, where pos­si­ble.”
