New York’s Largest Hotel Drops Room Service –
New York’s Hilton Midtown is planning to discontinue room service in August, according to media reports. The hotel, located on Sixth Avenue, between West 53rd and West 54th streets, is the coupled with a rise in labor costs.
“Like most full-service hotels, New York Hilton Midtown has continued to see a decline in traditional room-service requests over the last several years,” according to a Hilton statement.
In place of room service, the hotel will open Herb n’ Kitchen, a cafeteria-style eatery that will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. The move is part of a larger initiative at the hotel chain to simplify its food offerings, and will include DoubleTree by Hilton and Embassy Suites as well.
According to Crain’s New York Business, the move will eliminate 55 jobs, but in a statement a Hilton hotel, where possible.”
