The walls of the Pump Room used to be covered floorto-ceiling celebrity 8-by-10 photos. No more; instead the room features a warm simple patina, comfortable seating and soft globes of lighting. But in a nod to the past, Sinatra’s spot in the far back corner has been preserved and Booth One still has its white telephone.

The food, however, is something quite new. The menu was created by 2011 James Beard award winner Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who combines original Pump Room classics with regional flavors and a farm-to-table sensibility. The Pump Room manages to balance its glamorous 1940s supper club past with sleek design and fresh tastes. Open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, SundayThursday, ‘til midnight, Friday and Saturday, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Across the lobby the Public features the Library and Coffee Bar – by day, a coffee shop offering light fare, and by night, a wine bar and beer garden. As part of the ‘value’ concept, Public Express takes brown-bag to a new level, with a selection of gourmet meals and desserts delivered literally in brown bags.
