King’s Day Am­s­ter­dam and through­out Hol­land April 26

Or­ange will dom­i­nate Hol­land’s land­scape, as the coun­try cel­e­brates its rst King’s Day. For­merly called Queen’s Day, the name changed with the 2013 corona­tion of King Willem-Alexan­der. Fes­tiv­i­ties be­gin on the eve of King’s Day when a car­ni­val at­mos­phere per­vades the streets. There is a vri­j­markt (lit­er­ally ‘free mar­ket’), street par­ties, and per­for­mances on ev­ery square. Rev­el­ers will ll the canals to cel­e­brate the birth­day of their King.
