One of In­dia’s most pop­u­lar tem­ple fes­ti­vals, this more than 200-year-old event was cre­ated by Raja Rama Varma in 1798. With a com­bi­na­tion of re­li­gious pomp and color, it hon­ors Shiva, the pre­sid­ing de­ity. Folk dancing, pan­chavadyam (rhyth­mic beat ele­phants are the main at­trac­tion, with golden head­dress, dec­o­ra­tive bells and or­na­ments, and rid­ers that carry or­nate para­sols.
