PANAMA DE­BUTS FIRST METRO IN CEN­TRAL AMER­ICA

On April 5, 2014, the first metro was launched in Panama. Metro Line One is 8.5 miles long, of which 4.6 miles is un­der­ground, 3 miles is el­e­vated and 1 mile is in trenches. The Metro will run from 5:00 AM – 10:00 PM.

The es­ti­mated time to get from north to south of the city with the new sub­way is 23 min­utes. The new metro has a car­ry­ing ca­pac­ity of 600 people per train, and can trans­port more than 15,000 people dur­ing rush hour.
