PANAMA DEBUTS FIRST METRO IN CENTRAL AMERICA
On April 5, 2014, the first metro was launched in Panama. Metro Line One is 8.5 miles long, of which 4.6 miles is underground, 3 miles is elevated and 1 mile is in trenches. The Metro will run from 5:00 AM – 10:00 PM.
The estimated time to get from north to south of the city with the new subway is 23 minutes. The new metro has a carrying capacity of 600 people per train, and can transport more than 15,000 people during rush hour.
