Doha’s New Ha­mad In­ter­na­tional Opens for Busi­ness — Qatar’s new Ha­mad In­ter­na­tional Air­port (HIA) opened May 1, 2014 to wel­come ar­riv­ing pas­sen­gers for

Ten car­ri­ers com­menced op­er­a­tions out of the new pas­sen­ger ter­mi­nal at HIA. end of May.

HIA and Air­port City to­gether make up the NDIA project and span 11 square miles, 60 per­cent on land re­claimed from the Ara­bian Gulf. The project in­cludes 100 build­ings of var­i­ous uses. The Pas­sen­ger Ter­mi­nal has an area of 6.5 mil­lion square

Once fully open, the ter­mi­nal will fea­ture 16 lounges, 26 art in­stal­la­tions, more than 100 F&B and re­tail out­lets, a tran­sit ho­tel, a swim­ming pool, a lux­ury spa, squash courts and a four-story cater­ing fa­cil­ity that is one of the largest in the world. The on­site pub­lic mosque can ac­com­mo­date 500 wor­ship­pers at prayer time.

Pas­sen­gers are able to take ad­van­tage of the many new ser­vices avail­able at Ha­mad In­ter­na­tional Air­port, from the free WiFi to play ar­eas for chil­dren, mul­ti­ple quiet ar­eas to re­lax, and the amaz­ing ar­ray of shop­ping and eat­ing op­tions. Qatar Duty Free at HIA of­fers more than 70 re­tail out­lets of­fer­ing a wide se­lec­tion of de­signer la­bels, elec­tron­ics, gourmet foods, along with more than 30 cafes and restaurants with a se­lec­tion of global and lo­cal cui­sine.

“The mo­ment we have all been build­ing to­wards for many years ar­rived to­day as QR1113 touched down, mark­ing the his­toric start of our full op­er­a­tions at the world­class Ha­mad In­ter­na­tional Air­port,” said Qatar Air­ways CEO Ak­bar Al Baker. “This is yet an­other mile­stone in the rich his­tory of Qatar Air­ways, and one that will al­low us to fully re­al­ize our am­bi­tions, and to of­fer our pas­sen­gers the very best of ser­vices, both in the air and on the ground.
