Haile Ge­brse­lassie dom­i­nated the world of dis­tance run­ning for the bet­ter part of two decades win­ning two Olympic gold medals, four con­sec­u­tive world cham­pi­onships and set­ting twenty-seven world records. This un­par­al­leled ath­letic re­sume has earned him a rep­u­ta­tion as the great­est dis­tance run­ner in his­tory.

To­day, he is Ethiopia’s most popular celebrity and, though his run­ning ca­reer is wind­ing down, he is ap­ply­ing his gritty de­ter­mi­na­tion to power his coun­try’s eco­nomic re­nais­sance.
