Business Traveler (USA) - - THE SCENE -

Week-long celebrations, parades, concerts, dances mark the anniversary of the Battle of Rivas. More commonly known as Juan Santamaria Day, the festivities commemorate Costa Rica’s national hero, a barefoot 19-year-old soldier whose act of heroism in the 1856 battle turned the tide against William Walker’s invading troops and secured Costa Rica’s sovereignty.
