Com­mune Ho­tels & Re­sorts and Desti­na­tion Ho­tels have an­nounced a merger, a move de­signed to lev­er­age their re­spec­tive strengths in the highly com­pet­i­tive cat­e­gory of in­de­pen­dent and life­style ho­tels and re­sorts. The com­bined com­pany will man­age over 90 ho­tels and re­sorts in seven coun­tries with ap­prox­i­mately $2 bil­lion of to­tal prop­erty rev­enues un­der man­age­ment.

The two com­pa­nies op­er­ate in com­ple­men­tary mar­kets with lit­tle over­lap. Com­mune is an in­ter­na­tional life­style ho­tel man­age­ment com­pany com­pris­ing Joie de Vivre Ho­tels, Thomp­son Ho­tels, tom­mie and Alila Ho­tels & Re­sorts, while Desti­na­tion is an op­er­a­tor of in­de­pen­dent ho­tels, re­sorts and res­i­dences in the United States.

In ad­di­tion the merger strength­ens each com­pany’s port­fo­lio: Com­mune brings a broader set of ur­ban of­fer­ings across North Amer­ica, Asia and Europe, while Desti­na­tion con­trib­utes a wide ar­ray of re­sort prop­er­ties in premier des­ti­na­tions in the US. The com­bined com­pany’s sales, mar­ket­ing and rev­enue man­age­ment plat­form, and dis­tri­bu­tion sys­tem will be larger. Head­quar­ters will be in Den­ver, CO, with of­fices in the US and China.
