Burj Al Arab Gets Decked Out

Business Traveler (USA) - - LIFESTYLE NEWS -

Dubai’s Burj Al Arab Jumeirah hotel is adding a huge 100,000-square-foot sea deck stretching out into the Gulf. The North Deck will feature a 6,600-square-foot fresh water pool, a second 8,900-square-foot sea water pool, a restaurant and bar, 32 cabanas and 400 sun loungers.

The 5,000-ton construction is coming by boat from Finland, and is scheduled to arrive in Dubai in mid-February. Then the structure will be lowered into place in six sections on top of 90 steel piles. The new facility is planned to open in the second quarter of this year.

The hotel said that the offsite construction and steel pile installation“will cause minimal impact to the marine environment,” adding that the deck had been designed“to provide shade for local fish and to attract undersea ecosystems that are known to cluster around steel piles.”
