A subsidiary of Chinese conglomerate HNA Group, which owns Hainan Airlines, has entered into an agreement to buy Carlson Hotels, which has around 1,400 hotels in operation and under development across 115 countries and territories. Brands include Radisson Blu, Radisson Red, Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson and the Club Carlson loyalty program.

Under terms of the deal, HNA will acquire all of Carlson Hotels, as well as the group’s majority stake in the Rezidor Hotel Group, Carlson Hotel’s Brussels-based master licensee. Under Swedish takeover rules, HNA will have to launch a public tender offer for the remaining stake in Rezidor or sell their interest down to below 30 percent.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, and is expected to close in the second half of 2016.
