Queen Elizabeth School Field

Calgary Herald New Condos - - New Condos - RICHARD WHITE

The open space on the east side of the Queen Elizabeth School campus serves primarily the students in the elementary, junior high and high school on its western edge.

Located at 16th A Street and 6th Avenue, it started in 1910 as the Bowview School with additions in 1930, 1953 (when it was renamed Queen Elizabeth) and 1967.

Notable alumni include Mayor Nenshi and Crazy Canuck skier Ken Read.

It is a wide-open space for the student gym activities during the day and community activities in the evening and weekends.

I have seen everything from girls’ field hockey to men’s flag football being played here.

Tucked away in the southwest corner is a major children’s playground next to the elementary school that has old school playground games painted on the asphalt. Hopscotch is the only one I can recognize.
