DID YOU KNOW?
There is a Lilac Median on 6th Avenue N.W. from 16th to 18th streets that dates back to 1929. The formal, ordered design of the median reflects the influence of the City Beautiful Movement in urban planning within Calgary. One of its principle initiatives was the creation of streets lined with trees and developed with landscaped boulevards and medians. The median was developed by William Reader, Calgary’s superintendent of parks and cemeteries from 1913-1942.
