Massive development planned for northeast
The first phase of a massive mixed-use development in northeast Calgary could get underway next year.
The Lacaille Group has plans to create Sky Pointe Town Centre — a 64-hectare community of between 8,000 and 9,000 multi-family units, along with 1.5 million square feet of commercial and retail space.
“We’d like to be building the first phase of retail and residential in 2013,” says Lacaille vice-president Al Schmidt.
Sky Pointe Town Centre will be a transit-oriented development (TOD) because of its level of density, services and location on the south side of Country Hills Boulevard and bounded on the east by 60th Street N.E. — the location of a station on the future extension of the northeast LRT line.
A unique aspect of the development is that the town centre will straddle Country Hills Boulevard and will be connected by a pedestrian overpass, says Schmidt.
Meanwhile, development of Skyview Ranch on the north side continues with Walton Management and Development and Qualico Communities as developers.
