Edison project welcomes its first residents
Location and convenience both big draws
An award-winning multifamily developer’s largest project to date is ready for residents.
Edison is a townhome project by Avi Urban in the southeast community of Walden. These homes start in the $300,000s.
Todd Littlewood and Clint Kniss were the first to take possession, getting keys to their three-bedroom home this week.
“We’re the pioneers,” says Littlewood, laughing. “It’s kind of exciting knowing we’re the very first to come in.”
They have been living in a single-family home in south- west Calgary. While their new home has been under construction, they’ve taken regular spins past the development to see how it’s taking shape.
“Every Friday after work,” notes Kniss.
When they were in the market for a new home and weighing their options on where to buy, a few things drew them to Edison — including location.
“Right now, I’m working up in Airdrie so having the ring road right here has been nice and handy,” says Kniss, adding they like the overall look of architecture in the community.
They also like the low-maintenance aspect of the complex, allowing them to travel more often.
“We didn’t lose out on space here,” says Kniss, gesturing toward the dining area and kitchen in their new home.
“But we don’t need to worry about cutting the lawn or shovelling snow.”
First possessions in a project aren’t just exciting for buyers. Victor Mutambo, Avi Urban’s general manager, says it’s also a big day for the company.
“This is an excellent oppor- tunity for us to reflect on what we’ve done over the last several months,” says Mutambo.
“A lot of work has gone into this and we actually see physical evidence of the results. A lot of people have put a lot of effort into bringing this to where we are today.”
Edison is a design based on homes in another Avi Urban project, The Enclave at Castle Keep. The Enclave won the Multi-Family Community Award at this year’s Calgary Region SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards.
“Edison is a great community for buyers looking to live in the south,” says Mutambo. “We’ve built on everything that we’ve learned from at the other developments that we’ve had.”
A sales centre for Edison is at 285 Walden Drive S.E.
It’s open 2 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
